CURRICULUM

At Pakistan Community Welfare School, we offer a curriculum which is broad and balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each Year Level. The aim of our curriculum is for students to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for their next stage of education.

Foundation stage

There are seven Areas of Learning and Development which shape educational programmes in early years settings. All Areas of Learning and Development are important and inter-connected. The Areas of Learning and Development are split into two categories: Prime areas and Specific areas. The three Prime areas are particularly important for building children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving. They are:

There are four Specific areas (which provide children with a broad curriculum and with opportunities to strengthen and apply the Prime areas). They are:

Assessments

Assessment is a continuous and integral part of our curriculum, designed to support each child's development and learning journey. Our assessment approach is holistic, focusing on observing and understanding each child's progress across all areas of learning.

Observations

Teachers conduct regular observations to capture children's interactions, activities, and achievements. These observations are documented through notes, photos, and samples of children's work, creating a comprehensive profile of their development. This documentation helps us tailor our teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of each child.

Personalised enrichment programme

Our Personalised Enrichment Programme is designed to cater to the unique needs and interests of each child. Through individualized activities and targeted support, we aim to enhance their strengths and address areas for growth. The program includes a variety of engaging and stimulating activities that promote cognitive, social, and emotional development. By fostering a love for learning and encouraging curiosity, we ensure that every child receives a well-rounded and enriching educational experience tailored to their personal development journey.

The Pakistan National Curriculum is delivered using an integrated topic approach and assessed using benchmark tracking as a basis to ensure coverage and progression throughout the school. The abler are challenged further in their learning and children who find aspects of their learning more difficult are appropriately supported so that they too are enabled to experience success.

Our Values

The curriculum is underpinned by the ADEK’s Competencies and Values Framework, which are taught on their own and through other areas of the curriculum, including assemblies and cross curricular links.

English

The English curriculum is taught using a strategy called Talk for Writing (T4W) which develops children’s writing skills through imitation, innovation and independence. Alongside this, children experience lessons on grammar, punctuation, spelling and handwriting. Guided Reading Sessions form the basis of our teaching of reading across the school.

Mathematics

The mathematics curriculum is currently delivered through a framework developed by consultants and coordinators, based on National Benchmarks. We are currently developing a teaching for mastery curriculum which enables children to develop their reasoning, investigative and problem-solving skills

Mixed ability groups

These subjects are taught in mixed ability groups. Furthermore, in all year groups there are small group interventions in order to support pupils in gaining the key skills to become successful readers, writers and mathematicians.

Curriculum Enrichment:

Theme weeks, whole school activities and opportunities within and outside school all enrich and develop the children’s learning. After school clubs and events extend these opportunities further. Additional whole school programs and approaches support quality teaching and learning and the school is adequately resourced in terms of learning.

Sports and Physical

Specialist Personal Development instructor support physical education in school. We, especially, emphasize on three important aspects of PE such as Agility, Balance and Coordination.

Foundation Stage

We are proud to announce that we have incorporated Arabic language instruction from the Early Years. In our Primary Arabic classes, we maintain a balanced approach that integrates both free play and a more teacher-directed, structured approach to learning through play and engaging curiosity within each child. This approach stimulates curiosity and active engagement in each child. Aligned with the UAE curriculum, our program is designed to cultivate confident and independent learners of Arabic.

Cycle 1

Arabic language instruction for Cycle 1 at our school is designed to provide a solid foundation and foster a love for learning Arabic from an early age. We integrate engaging activities and structured lessons to support students' development in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. Our approach follows the UAE curriculum, empowering students to become confident communicators and lifelong learners of the Arabic language. Through a supportive and nurturing environment, we aim to cultivate proficiency and appreciation for Arabic among our young learners.

Cycle 2

Arabic language instruction for Cycle 2 focuses on building upon foundational knowledge while deepening understanding and proficiency. Our curriculum emphasizes comprehensive language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. Through structured lessons and engaging activities, we aim to enhance students' confidence and fluency in Arabic, preparing them for academic and practical use of the language. This approach aligns with educational standards to foster a strong foundation in Arabic language and culture during these critical years of learning.
